Did God create heaven and earth?

The first belief statement in the Apostles Creed is:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

The first words recorded in the Bible are: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) Everything else proceeds from that declaration. God is infinite. Before anything was created, he existed. When he began the process of creation, the universe, our galaxy within that universe, our solar system within that galaxy, our planet within that solar system, and all life upon our planet came into being. We, as humans, are God’s handiwork.

The Bible also tells us that his son, Jesus, was involved in creation.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:1-5

Not only did God create the heavens and earth, he created man in his own image.

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

Genesis 1:26

Each human being is the image bearer of God. That’s why humans can reason and make choices. They can believe whatever they want, but if they call themselves Christians, i.e. followers of Christ, they are stating that they believe in God the creator of heaven and earth.
