One must expand her or his understanding of God to understand the answer to this question. The Bible reveals the attributes of God, including the idea that he is all knowing, or omniscient. Another attribute of God is omnipresence. He is present in all places at all times. Therefore, an all-knowing God can easily hear all prayers of all the people on earth at any given moment. God is also omnipotent, or all powerful, and can answer each and every prayer as he sees fit.
As science and engineering reveal more of the mysteries of the universe, and help us harness some of its incredible power, understanding God’s attributes becomes easier for each generation.
Psalm 147 says, “God determines the number of stars and calls in each by name.” Before the invention of the telescope 400 years ago, people could see thousands of stars on a clear night. Today, telescopes like The Hubble which circles the earth, has discovered that the universe contains trillions upon trillions of stars in billions of galaxies. A God who can count and name those stars is almost unfathomable. And, he surely would have no trouble hearing the prayers of the mere seven billion people alive on earth today.
Here is another way to think about the question. Today in our high-tech world hundreds of millions of people are using computers and smartphones to ask questions of Google, Siri, and Alexa all at the same time. These tireless virtual servants return multiple answers in a blink of an eye. People could not imagine such a thing 50 years ago, but now accessing all kinds of data at the touch of a fingertip is commonplace throughout the world. So, why couldn’t God who created the universe not do much, much more?
Yes, God has no limits to hearing and answering all the prayers of those who diligently seek Him, love Him, know Him, and trust Him. The equally important question is: “Are you spending enough time with God and listening for His answers?” Prayer needs to be a two-way conversation.
