Why did Jesus have to die for our sins? Couldn’t God have done it a different way?

God is Holy and will not have sin in His presence. Without a sacrifice, the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. (Hebrews 9:22)  In the Old Testament we read that God called for the offering of an unblemished lamb as an atoning sacrifice for the forgiveness of the sins of the people. Jesus was the perfect “lamb of God” (John 1:29, 35) slain in God’s plan of salvation from the foundation of the world.

God’s plan all along was to send His son Jesus to die for us so that by placing our trust in Him as Savior we could be forgiven and gain eternal life. There was no better way for us to be brought into right relationship with God.  There is nothing we can do ourselves to earn salvation. Salvation is by God’s Grace alone, by Faith alone in Christ alone. There is no forgiveness of sin in any other. There was no other way but God’s way.
