If Jesus is not the son of God and just a man, his death could not have served as a substitute for the death that all men deserve for their sin. This is a foundational belief of Christianity and is based on Jesus’s declaration that God is his Father. It is also affirmed in other biblical writings. Jesus is the second part of the Godhead that incorporates God the Father, maker of heaven and earth, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
This concept of the Holy Trinity is based on a combination of biblical teachings, interpretation, and faith. Let’s take a look at some of the relevant Bible passages:
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
“You (Mary) will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” Luke 1:31-33
Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:33
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31
At once he (Paul) began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. Acts 9:20
and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 1:4
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. Hebrews 1:3
We believe that Jesus is not just a human being, but also the Son of God who took on human form to serve as savior to humanity. This reveals God’s love and grace: By sending his son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of humanity, God demonstrated his deep love and grace towards all people.
Jesus’s death on the cross provides a way for humanity to have a relationship with God: Through faith in Jesus as the son of God, we believe that we can become reconciled with God and have eternal life. This, in turn, offers hope and comfort in times of trouble or suffering, as it affirms that God is with us and cares for us deeply.

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
